fat loss

Stop counting calories. Start counting these instead.

Calorie apps fail most people within a month. The fix is not more discipline — it is counting fewer, better things.

Almost every client we meet has a calorie app in their phone's graveyard. Two weeks of logging every almond, one untracked weekend, and the streak — and the plan — died together. The usual takeaway is "I lack discipline". The real takeaway is that counting everything is a job, and nobody keeps a second job for free.

Why the apps fail

Three reasons, none of them you. First, home cooking breaks them — there is no accurate entry for your mother-in-law's paneer curry, and guessing defeats the purpose. Second, the error bars are enormous: food labels can be off by up to 20 per cent, restaurant meals by more, and the app reports it all with three decimal places of false confidence. Third, and most important: logging is a chore with no finish line. Motivation runs out before the fat does.

Counting calories is not wrong. It is just an expensive way to buy information you can get cheaper.

You do not need to count everything. You need to control the few things that decide the result.

Count these instead

Protein serves — the only thing worth actually counting. One palm-sized serve per meal, three to four a day. Protein decides hunger and decides whether the weight you lose is fat or muscle. This is one number, countable at a glance, no app required.

Plates, not grams. Half the plate vegetables or sabzi, a quarter protein, a quarter rice or roti. The ratio does the calorie maths for you, every meal, forever.

Liquid calories — count them to zero-ish. Juice, soft drink, three-sugar chai, weekend beers. These are the calories nobody remembers eating. Most people can drop 300 a day here without touching a single meal.

One weekly measurement. Waist at the navel, same day, same time. Four weeks flat means eat slightly less; moving means keep going. That is the entire feedback loop the app was pretending to be.

The honest trade

This approach is less precise than perfect logging — and perfect logging does not exist for longer than a month. A rougher system you run for a year beats a precise system you quit in February. Fat loss is compound interest; the only variable that truly matters is still being in the game.

What we do with this

Rippd Fit clients get a protein target, a plate template built from their own cuisine, and a four-weekly re-measure — no logging homework. The results get audited every twelve weeks with numbers, not vibes. First four weeks free; delete the app either way.
